The NBA’s return to London drew a festive crowd to the O2 Arena as fans gathered to
watch the Orlando Magic face the Memphis Grizzlies, highlighting the league’s “growing presence in Europe.”
During pre-game ceremonies, singer Vanessa Williams began performing the U.S. national anthem as “the crowd quieted, lights dimmed.”
The moment was briefly disrupted when a fan shouted a comment referencing former President Donald Trump’s
reported interest in Greenland, prompting “scattered boos and louder cheers.”
Williams stayed composed and “completed the anthem flawlessly,” earning applause.
The interruption echoed past political controversy surrounding Trump’s suggestions about Greenland, which European leaders had rejected.
Despite this, attention quickly shifted back to basketball. Fans enjoyed the energy of a live NBA game on U.K. soil,
with the Grizzlies ultimately defeating the Magic in a lively matchup.
The NBA says it plans to host more international games in cities like Manchester, Paris, and Berlin, reinforcing its global expansion.
