After five days apart, man finds his dog following wildfire destruction

Early on January 7, 2025, the Palisades Fire swept through California, leaving homes destroyed and roads impassable.

For Casey Colvin, the immediate fear wasn’t property—it was the safety of his beloved dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika.

Trapped at work when the fire broke out, Casey frantically tried to reach his neighborhood.

Road closures forced him to rent a bike, pedaling through smoke and chaos. When he arrived, emergency crews

blocked access, and the fate of his dogs remained unknown. The uncertainty was agonizing.

Cal Fire battalion chief Brent Pascua intervened, courageously entering a burning home. He rescued Tika Tika Tika,

but Oreo was missing. For five days, Casey combed through wreckage, joined by neighbors and volunteers, searching desperately for any sign of his small Pomeranian.

Hope arrived when Oreo was spotted wandering near a nearby property, disoriented but alive. Casey rushed over,

calling Oreo’s name. Covered in ash, the dog leapt into his arms, marking a reunion of tears, relief, and joy that spread across social media.

In the days after, Casey met Pascua with both dogs, expressing gratitude. “If you hadn’t left that door open,

my dogs wouldn’t be here today,” he said, highlighting the firefighter’s bravery and compassion. Pascua reflected that moments like these make the risks worthwhile.

The incident underscored the emotional and physical dangers pets face during natural disasters. Casey’s

determination and Pascua’s heroism symbolized the human-animal bond and the importance of emergency responders who recognize it.

Beyond personal triumph, the story inspired the community, emphasizing resilience, hope, and the need for preparedness,

evacuation planning, and strategies to protect both humans and animals in fires.

Despite the devastation of the Palisades Fire, Casey’s reunion with Oreo and Tika Tika Tika stands as a

testament to courage, love, and perseverance. It reminds us that even in catastrophe, determination and compassion can lead to miraculous outcomes.
