Angel Reese Issues Statement on USA After Fatal Shooting of Alex Pretti

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese expressed her concern after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old ICU nurse

Alex Pretti during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, posting, “Praying for our country.”

Authorities claim Pretti approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun and resisted attempts to disarm him.

His family strongly disputes this, insisting he was unarmed, holding only a phone, and trying to protect a woman pushed to the ground.

Pretti was known as a compassionate nurse who cared for military veterans and had recently participated

in protests against ICE activity in Minneapolis. NBA star Tyrese Haliburton called his death a “murder.” The official cause of death has not yet been released.

The shooting sparked national debate over immigration enforcement and law enforcement conduct,

highlighting tensions between federal authorities and local communities.

In Minneapolis, hundreds of protesters took to the streets, prompting authorities to deploy tear

gas near the scene. Safety concerns led the NBA to postpone the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Golden State Warriors game, rescheduling it for the following day.

Federal officials stated that the agent involved, who has eight years of service, fired “defensive shots”

out of fear for officers’ lives. Pretti’s family and supporters reject this account, calling it false and defamatory.

Political responses were swift. Vice President JD Vance criticized local leaders for not cooperating with ICE,

while former President Donald Trump shared images he claimed showed the victim’s weapon.

As investigations continue, Pretti’s death has become both a deeply personal tragedy and a national flashpoint,

fueling conversations about law enforcement accountability, immigration policy, and the risks faced by those who intervene in volatile situations.
